Goliath will never win any awards as an outstanding brew, but it does fill a much needed 'standard bitter' niche in Wychwood's line-up. As such it is a slightly odd example of the genre. It is on the sweet side, with the dominant flavor that of caramel malt. Unfortunately, it can taste a touch watery, and the body and head are not as full as most drinkers would desire. At 4.2% it is a reasonable session beer, but it lacks the character one looks for in a better beer. On the plus side, it can generally be found quite cheaply, which is a point in its favor. There is nothing I particularly dislike in this beer, but there is also not a lot to celebrate. 6/10
